The Fendt 1000 Vario tractors mark the beginning of a new power class for standard tractors. Ranging from 380 HP to 500 HP, the four new models in the series are big and powerful, yet remarkably compact, agile, fast and fuel efficient.
The Fendt 1000 Vario
A breakthrough in design, the Fendt 1000 tractors are exceptionally versatile in use, capable of transport work at 31 mph (50 kph) and heavy draft work. Thanks to their relatively light 30,864 pounds and 60-inch row-crop-capable track width, all four fixed-frame models can fill the row-crop and transport needs commonly delegated to a conventional tractor. Yet, a flexible ballasting concept allows each vehicle to be loaded with up to 50% of its base weight for use in the heaviest draft applications typically reserved for 4-wheel-drive, track and articulated tractors.
“The Fendt 1000 Vario is also the first standard tractor line with a new Fendt iD comprehensive low-engine-speed concept,” explains Josh Keeney, tactical marketing manager for North America. “That means that all drivetrain components, as well as the hydraulics and cooling system, were designed to work ideally within the ‘high-torque, low-engine-speed’ concept to minimize fuel consumption and extend service life.”
The maximum torque lies at 1,100 rpm and remains nearly constant up to 1,500 rpm. The 1000 Vario also reaches its max speed of 31 mph at a fuel-saving 1,100 rpm and, in the case of the horsepower-leading model 1050, delivers up to 1,770 foot-pounds of torque at just 1,100 rpm.
As Keeney explains, in addition to Fendt iD, another groundbreaking component is a completely new stepless drive concept called VarioDrive. “Fendt has not only further developed the Vario transmission, but also developed a completely new drivetrain,” he says. “It’s the first drivetrain that drives both axles independently, providing optimized traction, automated 4-wheel drive and enhanced maneuverability.”

Since there is no fixed drive ratio with the variable 4-wheel drive, the front-wheel drive can actively pull the tractor into the curve as well, using its so-called “pull-in turn” effect, which reduces the turning radius in the field by up to 10%. VarioDrive minimizes the otherwise usual wear on the front tires caused by turning on the road.
The new Fendt 1000 Vario has optionally available high-capacity hydraulics with two highly efficient independent hydraulic circuits. Two autonomous axial piston pumps can meet the demands for different flow and pressure levels in the two working hydraulic circuits according to need. This allows two of the implement’s consumers, which have different demands for flow volume and pressure level, each to be controlled by one pump. Thanks to integral pressure limiting valves, the pumps always deliver the right amount of oil in their working circuit with the proper pressure, according to demand. In this way, the high hydraulic capacity is perfectly adapted to the low engine speed concept of the Fendt iD.
